Big Relief for Citizens: UIDAI Extends Free Aadhaar Update Deadline Till June 14, 2027

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has once again provided significant relief to citizens by extending the deadline to update documents in Aadhaar cards free of cost. Initially set to expire much earlier, the free online document update facility has now been officially extended until June 14, 2027.

This move is part of UIDAI’s ongoing effort to encourage residents to keep their Aadhaar data accurate and updated, especially those who were issued their unique identity numbers over a decade ago and have not updated their records since.

In this post, we’ll cover who needs to update their documents, why it matters, and a step-by-step guide on how you can do it online for free.

Who Needs to Update Their Aadhaar Documents?

According to UIDAI guidelines, if your Aadhaar card was issued more than 10 years ago and has never been updated, you are strongly encouraged to re-submit your Proof of Identity (PoI) and Proof of Address (PoA) documents.

Even if your demographic details (like name, date of birth, or address) haven’t changed, updating your supporting documents strengthens the security and accuracy of the Aadhaar authentication ecosystem.

Is It Completely Free?

  • Online via myAadhaar Portal: Yes, updating your documents online through the official portal remains completely free of cost until June 14, 2027.
  • Offline via Aadhaar Centers: If you choose to visit a physical Aadhaar Enrolment Center or Common Services Center (CSC) to update your documents, a standard fee of ₹50 will apply.

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Update Your Aadhaar Documents Online

Step 1: Log In to the Portal

  1. Go to the official my Aadhaar portal: https://myaadhaar.uidai.gov.in/.
  2. Click on the ‘Login’ button.
  3. Enter your 12-digit Aadhaar number and the Captcha code, then click ‘Send OTP’.
  4. Enter the One-Time Password (OTP) received on your registered mobile number and log in.

Step 2: Navigate to Document Update

  1. Once logged in, look for the ‘Document Update’ service on the dashboard.
  2. A message will appear showing the deadline extension (Free until 14/06/2027). Click ‘Next’ and read the procedural guidelines, then click ‘Next’ again.

Step 3: Verify Your Details

  1. Your existing demographic details (Name, Gender, Date of Birth, and Address) will be displayed on the screen.
  2. Carefully verify these details. If they are correct, check the box that says: “I verify that the above details are correct.”
  3. (Note: If any of your demographic details are incorrect, you will need to update your demographic details first before updating the documents).

Step 4: Upload Supporting Documents

  1. You will now be asked to upload your supporting identity and address proofs.
  2. Select the valid document type from the drop-down menu for Proof of Identity (PoI) (e.g., PAN Card, Passport, Driving License, Voter ID). Upload a scanned copy or clear photo of the document.
  3. Select the valid document type for Proof of Address (PoA) (e.g., Electricity bill, Bank statement, Voter ID, Passport). Upload the document. (Ensure the file size is less than 2 MB and format is JPEG, PNG, or PDF).

Step 5: Submit the Request

  1. After uploading both documents, click ‘Submit’.
  2. Since the service is free, the payment page will show a ₹0 amount. Confirm your submission.
  3. You will receive a Service Request Number (SRN). Save this number to track the status of your update request online.
